Outcome statement:

This course provides an overview of basic clinical care of exotic small mammals, avian and reptile companion species commonly seen in New Zealand’s general practice veterinary clinics. The students will develop their knowledge of husbandry, restraint, common presentations and the applicable veterinary nursing care.


 
Learning outcomes:

On successful completion of this course the student will be able to:

1.      Demonstrate theoretical knowledge of the appropriate care of a range of exotic companion animal species in a clinical context.

2.      Demonstrate knowledge of common presentations, including common emergencies and the applicable nursing care practices for a range of exotic companion animals in a first-opinion clinic.

3.      Critically analyse research to inform evidence-based veterinary nursing practices as they apply to exotic companion animal species.
