AIM
This course provides an opportunity for students to customise their learning, through a negotiated learning contract, to meet organisational needs while applying specialist knowledge to a specific, well planned project.
LEARNING OUTCOMES
On successful completion of this course participants will be able to:

Establish the need for and feasibility of a project, decide personal leaning goals and negotiate corresponding learning outcomes and assessment tasks

Design and establish a support system for project management

Present a project management plan demonstrating the integration of theory and use of critical skills

Implement the project demonstrating a key management role, the integration of theory and use of critical skills

LEARNING AND TEACHING APPROACHES
This course involves students in self-study and reflection on their own practice. While largely self-directed, students will be provided with face to face and/or on-line support from the tutor.
Students will attend mentoring tutorials at agreed times. At these tutorials students will be provided with a critique by the tutor and peers (if relevant). This critique and feedback (which will take the form of formative feedback), along with the participants own reflection will be documented in the student’s learning journal, which will form the basis of the assessment report.
TOPICS
Feasibility study for the project including, Literature Review or mapping of similar projects within the organisation or elsewhere; Identifying key stakeholders in project management support network; Negotiating roles, responsibilities and reporting systems; Building and maintaining a support team. Anticipating a range of desired project outcomes; Critical analysis of the relevance and utility of a range of project management methods in the development of a project plan; Presentation of a project management plan including risk assessment, monitoring and evaluation; Creating draft budgets; Use of theory to inform practice in project planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation; Use of supervision; Use of reflective practice as a project manager; Recognition and Maintenance of stakeholder relations; Monitoring project management; negotiated learning outcomes, assessment methods.
